In a significant step towards strengthening India’s indigenous AI capabilities, BharatGen has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IIT Bombay and C-DAC (Centre for Development of Advanced Computing). The collaboration aims to accelerate the development of sovereign AI infrastructure that reflects India’s rich linguistic diversity.
The partnership will focus on advancing foundational research in artificial intelligence, with a strong emphasis on creating systems that can understand and operate across multiple Indian languages—including low-resource and tribal languages that are often overlooked in mainstream technology development.
As part of this initiative, the three institutions will work together on several critical areas. These include building distributed AI infrastructure for large-scale model training, developing multimodal AI models that integrate text, speech, and visual data, and creating robust multilingual datasets along with evaluation frameworks. The collaboration will also drive the design of AI solutions tailored specifically for Indic and underrepresented languages.

This move aligns with BharatGen’s broader vision of developing India’s first sovereign, multilingual, and multimodal AI ecosystem. The goal is to create technology that truly represents India’s cultural and linguistic landscape, while reducing reliance on foreign AI platforms.
By bringing together some of the country’s leading research institutions, the initiative is expected to pave the way for more inclusive and accessible AI solutions. These advancements could play a transformative role across sectors such as governance, education, healthcare, and public services—ensuring that AI benefits reach every corner of the country.
