Motorola launched the Edge 70 Pro in India on April 22, 2026, positioning it as the flagship offering in the mid-premium segment — targeting buyers who want near-flagship performance without crossing into the Rs 50,000+ territory.
The base variant is priced at Rs 38,999 for the 8GB RAM + 256GB storage configuration. The 12GB RAM + 256GB variant comes in at Rs 41,999. With bank card discounts of up to Rs 2,000, the effective starting price drops to Rs 36,999.
Sales begin April 29, 2026, via Flipkart, Motorola's official website, and retail stores across India. The phone comes in three Pantone-certified color options: Lily White, Tea, and Titan — each with distinct surface finishes described as Satin-Luxe, Tailored Fabric, and Marble.
This is the successor to the Edge 60 Pro, which launched in India at Rs 29,999 in early 2025. The jump in price is notable. Motorola is clearly moving the Edge Pro upmarket.
The Display: One of the Better Screens in This Price Bracket
The Edge 70 Pro carries a 6.8-inch pOLED display with 1.5K resolution (2400 x 1080 effectively, referred to as Super HD), a 144Hz refresh rate, and peak brightness of 5,200 nits. The panel is curved on all four sides — the "quad-curved" design that Motorola has been using across its premium lineup.
The screen is Pantone-validated for color accuracy, supports HDR10+, and has 10-bit color depth. Gorilla Glass 7i protects the front panel.
At 5,200 nits peak brightness, outdoor visibility should be excellent. The 144Hz refresh rate ensures smooth scrolling and gaming. The curved edges are primarily a design and grip choice — they look premium but can add glare in certain orientations.
For a phone at this price, the display specification is competitive. Samsung's Galaxy A55 at a similar price point offers a flatter display with lower peak brightness. OnePlus Nord CE 4 Pro runs at 120Hz.

The Processor: Dimensity 8500 Extreme — What to Expect
The Edge 70 Pro runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Extreme chipset, paired with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage.
The predecessor Edge 60 Pro used the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4. The Dimensity 8500 Extreme is a different kind of chip — it's MediaTek's sub-flagship tier, designed for strong multi-threaded performance and AI tasks without the heat and power consumption of a flagship-class processor.
Benchmarks for the Dimensity 8500 Extreme put it ahead of the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 and in the same class as the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3. For day-to-day tasks, gaming at medium-to-high settings, and AI-enhanced photography, it is more than sufficient. For hardcore gaming at maximum settings over extended sessions, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or Dimensity 9300 would pull ahead.
The UFS 4.1 storage is a notable upgrade — faster storage means apps load quicker and the system feels more responsive. Combined with the LPDDR5X RAM, everyday performance should feel snappy.
The Cameras: Triple 50MP System with Sony LYTIA 710
This is where Motorola made the biggest pitch with the Edge 70 Pro.
The rear setup features three 50MP cameras:
- Primary: Sony LYTIA 710 sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS)
- Ultrawide: 50MP with macro capability
- Front-facing: 50MP with autofocus
The Sony LYTIA 710 is a solid mid-tier sensor. It handles natural light well and the OIS helps significantly with video stability and low-light handheld photography. Motorola claims AI-enhanced processing improves low-light shots further — the brand calls this a "photography-focused" device.
The 50MP ultrawide also doubling as a macro camera is a practical choice. Separate macro cameras in sub-flagship phones are often poor quality. A 50MP ultrawide-macro hybrid gives you far more usable close-up shots than a 2MP dedicated macro.
The 50MP selfie camera with autofocus is a headline number. Whether the sensor quality behind those megapixels delivers in real-world use is what hands-on reviews over the coming weeks will confirm. On paper, it's competitive.
Battery and Charging: The Strongest Argument for This Phone
The Edge 70 Pro packs a 6,500mAh battery. That is a very large battery for a phone of this size — most mid-range competitors sit between 4,500mAh and 5,000mAh. The regular Edge 70, for comparison, carries a 5,000mAh cell.
Paired with 90W fast charging, a full charge should take under 40 minutes based on similar hardware charging times. There's also support for wireless charging (not confirmed at what wattage at press time) and reverse wireless charging for accessories.
For a buyer who spends long hours away from chargers — traveling, on-site work, outdoor activities — 6,500mAh represents meaningful peace of mind.
Motorola has confirmed IP68 and IP69 ratings, meaning the phone is fully dustproof and protected against high-pressure water jets. This is unusually strong water resistance certification for the price point. Most competitors offer IP67 or IP68 but not IP69.
MIL-STD-810H certification for military-grade drop and vibration resistance rounds out the durability story.
Software: Android 16 Out of the Box, 3 Years of OS Updates
The Edge 70 Pro ships with Android 16 — which is itself a recent release — and Motorola has committed to three years of OS upgrades and five years of security patches. This is a meaningful commitment. It takes the phone's software lifecycle to 2029–2031.
Motorola's software approach remains one of the cleaner Android experiences on the market. The UI is close to stock Android, with Motorola's Moto Gestures (chop to turn on the flashlight, twist to open the camera) as the main additions. Bloatware is minimal.
The company has also added a dedicated Moto AI button on the left spine — a hardware shortcut to AI features integrated into the phone.
The Competitive Landscape
At Rs 38,999, the Edge 70 Pro faces direct competition from:
- Samsung Galaxy A56 (expected at similar pricing) — Strong brand recall, but typically weaker processor and slower charging
- OnePlus Nord CE 4 Pro — Competitive on performance, but Motorola has the battery and durability advantage
- iQOO Z9s Pro — Strong performer at the price, but Motorola's software longevity and water resistance are differentiators
- Realme GT 6T — Gaming-focused, but the Edge 70 Pro's camera and durability are better for everyday buyers
The Rs 35,000–45,000 segment in India is fiercely competitive. Motorola's bet is that the combination of battery life, durability, camera quality, and clean software will be enough to stand out.
Whether the price jump from the Edge 60 Pro at Rs 29,999 to this at Rs 38,999 is justified is the central question buyers will ask. The hardware upgrade — particularly the battery, the charging speed, the Sony sensor, and the IP69 rating — makes a reasonable case.
Should You Buy It?
Buy it if: You want a reliable daily driver with exceptional battery life, good cameras, clean software, and better-than-average durability. If you're coming from the Edge 60 Pro or an older mid-range device, the upgrade is meaningful.
Wait if: You're comparing to the upcoming Samsung Galaxy A56 and want to see how it measures up before committing. Or if the Rs 38,999 starting price feels like a stretch when the regular Edge 70 at Rs 29,999 covers most of your needs.
