Adolescence Is Still the Most Important Show on Netflix — And Everything Else This Week Is Catching Up

Monday evening. You've got the remote in one hand and the phone in the other, scrolling through four platforms wondering if anything's actually worth watching. This week, the answer is yes — and across more than one platform.
The last week of April rolling into May is usually quiet on the OTT front. But 2026 has changed that rhythm. Platforms are now dropping content more aggressively in the April–May window to grab attention before the IPL final buzz and summer holiday releases take over multiplex and streaming calendars both.
Here's what's actually new, what's worth your time, and what you can safely skip.
Netflix India — Releases This Week
Adolescence (Season 1) – Still Trending
If you haven't watched this yet, you're behind. The British limited series about a 13-year-old boy accused of murdering a classmate has become one of Netflix's most-talked-about global titles of the year. Each episode is shot in a single continuous take — no cuts, no edits, just raw filmmaking. It's uncomfortable in the best way. Running time per episode is roughly 60–70 minutes, and there are four episodes in total.
This one isn't entertainment in the casual sense. It's the kind of series that makes you put down your phone halfway through and actually pay attention. The portrayal of teenage online culture, incel communities, and parental helplessness is as relevant in India as it is in the UK.
New on Netflix This Week
- Missing You — British thriller, based on Harlan Coben's novel. A detective discovers her missing ex-fiancé is alive and hiding something. Solid binge, 7 episodes.
- The Residence — American dark comedy mystery. A murder at the White House, a very unusual detective. Think Agatha Christie with American political absurdity baked in. Uzo Aduba leads and she's excellent.
- Doc — Italian medical drama dubbed in Hindi and English. A surgeon loses his memory after an accident and has to rediscover both his professional life and personal relationships. Emotional without being melodramatic.
Amazon Prime Video — What's New
Prime has been quieter than Netflix this week, but it's making up for it with catalogue depth and one strong original.
The Better Sister
A psychological thriller starring Elizabeth Banks. Two estranged sisters whose relationship collapses after a shocking murder. It's sharp, well-written, and doesn't overstay its welcome. If you liked Big Little Lies, this sits in the same neighbourhood — suburban tension, women navigating violence and power.
Clarkson's Farm Season 4
Jeremy Clarkson is back farming badly in the Cotswolds. This one's pure comfort viewing. No moral complexity, no social commentary — just a man struggling with sheep, bureaucracy, and his own cluelessness. Enormously popular across India's urban professional crowd.
- Daaku Maharaaj (Telugu, dubbed) — Nandamuri Balakrishna-led mass action entertainer. Premiered theatrically, now streaming. Works better on the big screen but the second half is punchy.
- Pushpa 2 Extended Cut — The extended version with new footage. If you saw it in theatres, the extra 20 minutes are worth revisiting for the interval block sequence alone.
- Deva (Hindi) — Shahid Kapoor's action film. Mixed reviews but a watchable one-time watch.
Disney+ Hotstar — Cricket + Content
Hotstar's weekly card is split, as always, between IPL matches and OTT originals. The platform knows that most of its traffic this month is sports-led. But for those who want something to watch after the match:
Andor Season 2 (Star Wars Universe)
This is the real deal. Season 1 of Andor was widely considered the best Star Wars content made since The Empire Strikes Back. Season 2 picks up where it left off — Tony Gilroy writing a proper political spy thriller that happens to be set in the Star Wars universe. Episodes drop weekly. Three episodes are already available.
Even if you don't care about Star Wars, Andor Season 1 is worth watching. It's about institutional resistance, the banality of empire, and what ordinary people do when the state turns against them. Very grown-up television.
Daredevil: Born Again
Marvel's darker, grittier take on the blind vigilante lawyer Matt Murdock. Critics initially had mixed views but audience ratings have been positive. Good for fans of the original Netflix Daredevil run from 2015–2018. The tonal shift is intentional and mostly works.
JioCinema — Hindi Content Focus
JioCinema continues to build its Hindi content library aggressively. The platform has been in an interesting position — cheap premium tier, strong Bollywood acquisition rights, and a growing original slate.
Homecoming (JioCinema Original)
A Hindi drama set in UP, following a family that's been apart for twelve years reuniting after the patriarch's death. Director is Shujaat Saudagar, known for Rock On 2. The show has been appreciated for its restraint and authenticity. Doesn't try to be an urban-cool show — stays grounded in small-town dynamics and that's where its strength is.
Also Streaming on JioCinema
- Game Changer (Telugu/Hindi) — Ram Charan's political action drama. Big scale, entertaining, though the plot doesn't hold up to scrutiny.
- Sky Force (Hindi) — IAF drama with Akshay Kumar. Patriotic fare that's slickly made. Good family watch.
SonyLIV — The Dark Horse Pick
SonyLIV has consistently delivered some of the best Indian originals — Scam 1992, Rocket Boys, Gullak. This week their catalogue pick to revisit (or discover) is Gullak Season 4 if you haven't finished it. The most quietly beloved family show on Indian OTT.
New: The Diplomat Season 2
Netflix-produced but available in some international markets through SonyLIV's licensing arrangement. Keri Russell returns as a U.S. Ambassador navigating British politics and her own marriage. Sharp writing, very fast dialogue. Highly watchable.
What to Skip This Week
Not everything deserves your evening. A few titles that have launched to underwhelming reception:
- Havoc (Netflix) — Tom Hardy action film. Loud, incoherent, style over everything. Skip unless you have 90 minutes to waste.
- Running Point (Netflix) — Sports comedy with Kate Hudson. A few laughs but largely forgettable.
Editor's Pick of the Week
If you can only watch one thing: Adolescence on Netflix. It's difficult viewing but it's the kind of content that justifies the existence of streaming platforms. Everything else this week is good-to-decent. Adolescence is exceptional.
