Google has unveiled Gemini Spark, a new AI-powered personal agent designed to work continuously in the background and carry out digital tasks on behalf of users, marking a major shift in the company’s artificial intelligence strategy from conversational AI to action-oriented AI agents.

Announced at Google I/O 2026, Gemini Spark is being positioned as a 24/7 personal AI agent that can help users navigate their digital lives, manage tasks, and take action under their direction.

Unlike traditional AI chatbots that respond only when prompted, Gemini Spark is designed to operate in the background across devices, even when a phone or laptop is turned off.

What is Gemini Spark?

According to Google, Spark runs on Gemini 3.5 and is built on the company’s Google Antigravity platform, which enables long-running, agentic workflows. The company said users will have control over when Spark is activated and that the agent is designed to seek confirmation before taking major actions on their behalf.
