Maruti Baleno Facelift Spied; Is The Launch Around the Corner?

Maruti Suzuki's Baleno has been spied in a camoflague again. A test mule has been spotted doing the rounds, and a facelift or a new model is expected in the Indian market soon.

As per sources, the updated Baleno is expected to hit Nexa showrooms somewhere between April end or May 2026. The 'testing spotted' phase usually means you are anywhere between four weeks and three months from launch — and given that Maruti has already filed regulatory paperwork in some configurations, four to six weeks looks like a realistic window.

Why the Baleno Needs This Update

The current-generation Baleno was launched in February 2022 and was a significant step up from its predecessor. It came with a fresh exterior, a more premium interior, a 9-inch SmartPlay Pro+ infotainment system, and better features. It also picked up a 4-star Bharat NCAP rating — upgraded to the full six airbags across all variants last year — cementing its safety credentials.

But the competition has not stood still. Hyundai i20, Tata Altroz, and Toyota Glanza (which shares the Baleno platform) have all been refreshed or received significant updates. More importantly, feature sets that were once premium — ADAS, sunroof, wireless charging — are now expected even at mid-range price points.

The Baleno, despite selling in large numbers, risks looking dated on the feature front if Maruti waits much longer. That is the primary trigger for this facelift.

Maruti Suzuki's overall FY 2025-26 performance gives context: the company reported 16.7% year-on-year growth in March 2026 and crossed 24 lakh total units for the full financial year. The Baleno remains one of the key volume contributors within the Nexa portfolio. A facelift keeps that momentum going.

What Is Changing: Design

Since this is a mid-cycle refresh rather than an all-new generation, the core body shell stays the same. The changes will be visible and meaningful, but they are not a ground-up redesign. Here is what the spy shots and industry sources point to:

  • Front: Revised grille with a new mesh or slat pattern, refreshed headlamps with updated Daytime Running Lights (DRLs), and a new bumper. The design language is expected to draw inspiration from Maruti's newer models like the e Vitara.
  • Rear end: New tail lamp clusters — likely with a connected LED strip — and a redesigned rear bumper.
  • Alloy wheels: New design, probably a darker or twin-tone finish to complement the updated exterior.
  • Side profile: Minimal changes expected here. The greenhouse and door sill line remain intact.

The overall effect will be a car that looks newer and fresher from the outside, without the proportions or platform changing. Think of it as the kind of styling reset that keeps a car looking current without requiring a new investment cycle.

What Is Changing: Features and Technology

This is where the Baleno facelift has a chance to make a real statement. Current-gen Baleno buyers have consistently flagged a few missing features that rivals offer. Maruti appears to be addressing them:

  • ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems): This is the biggest expected addition. Honda Amaze and Hyundai i20 already offer ADAS on their top variants. Maruti is not going to ignore this for much longer. Expect at minimum lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control on higher variants.
  • Sunroof: Currently absent on the Baleno. A single-pane sunroof on the top variant is widely anticipated and would be a significant pull for buyers comparing with the i20.
  • Wireless phone charging: Present on some competitors, absent on current Baleno. Expected to arrive.
  • Larger touchscreen: The 9-inch screen may be upgraded to a 10.25-inch unit, bringing it in line with what the market now considers standard.
  • Digital instrument cluster: Full-digital driver's display expected on higher trims.
  • TPMS: Tyre Pressure Monitoring System expected to be added across variants.

All of these are features the current Baleno buyer has to either forgo or seek elsewhere. Adding them strengthens the car's value proposition without requiring a significant price jump.

Powertrain: No Change Expected

The 2026 Baleno facelift will not bring a new engine. The existing lineup — which works well — stays:

  • 1.2-litre DualJet petrol engine: 89 bhp, 113 Nm of torque. Paired with a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT automatic.
  • 1.2-litre CNG variant: 76.4 bhp, 98.5 Nm of torque, with manual gearbox only.

There have been speculations about Maruti's new Z-series petrol engine making its way into the Baleno, or a mild hybrid option being introduced. These remain unconfirmed. For now, industry sources expect the powertrain lineup to carry forward unchanged.

What is worth tracking: Maruti showcased its series-hybrid technology separately. If they decide to include any hybrid element in the Baleno at all, even a mild 48V system, it would be a segment first. But do not hold your breath for that in this cycle.

Expected Price Range

The current Baleno is priced from Rs 6.61 lakh (ex-showroom, base variant) to approximately Rs 9.88 lakh for the top-end Alpha AMT. The facelift, with additional features, is expected to come in at:

  • Base variant: approximately Rs 7 to 7.5 lakh
  • Mid variants: Rs 8 to 9 lakh
  • Top variant with sunroof and ADAS: Rs 9.5 to 10.5 lakh

These are estimates and the actual pricing will depend on how aggressively Maruti wants to defend its market position against the Hyundai i20, which starts at around Rs 7.19 lakh.

The Toyota Glanza Connection

The Baleno and the Toyota Glanza share the same platform and are sold through different dealership networks — Maruti's Nexa and Toyota's dealerships respectively. A Baleno facelift almost certainly means a Glanza facelift follows within weeks. Toyota's version gets slightly different front-end styling but is mechanically identical.
